On what do you focus when you apply make-up for male cosplays? any tricks?

EYEBROWS!
This idea is taught by my senpais since I ever started cosplay XD
but it really depends on what kind of art style you are cosplaying. For me I usually just try my best to imitate how they are drawn on the characters. The distance between your eyebrows and your eyes can really change your features and the personalities of the character. (usually the closer they are the more masculine they are vice versa.) I hardly ever use my own natural eyebrows. I always cover them and draw a set of new ones. I used to shave off my eyebrows but recently cuz I have school/work all that it’s better to keep my natural eyebrows so I don’t need to work on my makeup too long before I head out.

Everything really just depends on the character. The cosplay culture here in the Western world is really limited with the two binary genders and often use the word “crossplay” which we hardly say things like that in Asia. The truth is it’s all about trying to imitate the character, not about because the character is male so his makeup must look this certain way. yes, there is a majority of male characters that looked a certain way back then but now the variety of art styles and facial features widened. I would just say just focus on what you see in the character itself and try and translated it to your face. Don’t be too fixated in how a certain gender/sex should look like.
As for tricks, I use glue stick to seal my eyebrows but I think most people have heard of that already XDDD
